SUNDERLAND reporter Chris Young gives his verdict after the Black Cats progressed into the FA Cup fourth round.
Pantilimon 7 - Had just one save to make, but denied Adryan at a crucial time right at the start of the second half.
Vergini 6 - Should be the last of his outings at right-back, with Anthony Reveillere and Patrick van Aanholt back in the frame, but was solid enough defensively.
O’Shea 7 - Guided Sunderland through the game with the minimum of fuss.
Coates 6 - Decent enough in keeping Leeds’ attack under wraps, but again let down by needlessly poor distribution.
VAN AANHOLT 9 - Brilliant surprising early return from injury after netting his first Sunderland goal and injecting the pace and width which the Black Cats have missed.
Bridcutt 7 - Calming presence at base of Sunderland’s midfield and repeatedly broke up Leeds’ attempts to get forward.
Rodwell 6 - Had shown promise before leaving the field as a precaution. (Larsson 6 - Could have done with a breather, but was typically tigerish following his introduction).
Gomez 7 - Makes a big difference to the Spaniard’s game when he can pick out van Aanholt with the pass inside the opposition right-back.
Alvarez 7 - Given too much room by Leeds during first half and worried the visitors defence, along with hitting the bar, before coming at the interval through illness (Wickham 6 - Set up a chance which Fletcher should have converted to made the game safe).
Giaccherini 8 - Proved too hot to handle for Leeds down the left-hand side during the first half and linked up well with van Aanholt. (Johnson 6 - Unable to make an impact after introduction of fresh legs).
Fletcher 5 - Had three good chances to get on the scoresheet, but failed to take any of them.
LEEDS: Silvestri 8, Berardi 5, Cooper 7, Del Fabro 6, C Taylor 7, Austin 8, Murphy 6, Sloth 6, Adryan 6 (Sharp 5), Antenucci 6, Montenegro 6 (Doukara 6).
