Sunderland's search for a new manager continues but a number of early frontrunners already seem to be drifting from contention.
Pearson 'on Boro shortlist'
Remains the bookies favourite for the Sunderland post and many fans have talked up a renunion with Kevin Phillips, who we worked with at Leicester City and Derby County.
Sky Sports News say he is on a three man shortlist for the Middlesbrough job, however, a post he has already said he would be interested in on Goals on Sunday.
His successful playing career there, as well as the squad and size of budget likely to be available, perhaps make that a more attractive post to him than the Stadium of Light.
Monk and Carvalhal unlikely to be on the move
In the immediate aftermath of David Moyes' departure, 37% picked Monk as their ideal candidate in an Echo poll, making him the clear favourite ahead of Kevin Phillips.
An ambitious swoop always looked unlikely but contract uncertainty at Elland Road made it seem an outside possibility.
Andrea Radrizzani has since taken over the club and looks set to extend Mon's contract and put a swift end to speculation.
Carlos Carvalhal, recently at 10/1 to be the next Sunderland boss, has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday despite a second successive play-off disappointment.
What next for Moyes?
Speculation already abounds to Moyes' next step and reports linking him to the Scotland job are no surprise.
He did little to distance himself from the role last year and Gordon Strachan is under heavy pressure.
A slightly more mischievous link is with Crystal Palace, where Sam Allardyce has recently departed. Moyes is at 20/1 with some bookies for that role.
