TWO iconic figures in Sunderland’s history are on Wearside tomorrow for a talk-in.
Former Sunderland manager Denis Smith and the young signing he moulded into a star, Marco Gabbiadini, will be at the Alexandra pub in Grangetown, relieving their glories at Roker Park and looking to the future of the Black Cats.
“Gabbers” retains his links with Sunderland 20 years after his departure from the North East, writing a weekly column in the Football Echo and being one of the regular co-commentators on Radio Newcastle’s early evening Total Sport programme.
Smith, who was manager of Sunderland from 1987-91, took Sunderland up from the Third Division to the First and might have kept the club there for the launch of the Premier League had more funds been available to him.
Tickets for the event are priced £15, which includes a hot supper, and the evening begins at 7.30pm.
Anyone who would like to go can contact the Alexandra direct, ring the organisers on 07720 452 092 or contact email@example.com
