SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Trevor Carson has joined League One side Bury on a two-month loan deal after dropping down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light over the course of the summer.
The Northern Ireland international has had to endure a frustrating year at Sunderland - unable to force his way into the first team squad last season and fading further out of the picture since the arrival of Coventry City keeper Keiren Westwood in the transfer window just closed.
And though he is desperate to succeed at Sunderland, the 23-year-old who has been at the club since he left school, appreciates the need for first-team action.
He spent the end of last season on loan at Brentford in and will go into the Shakers’ squad for tonight’s visit of another of his former loan sides – Chesterfield, where he made 18 league appearances in the 2008-09 campaign.
Carson, a regular Under 21 international who was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for the first time in 2010, has been a regular feature for Sunderland’s reserve side in recent seasons.
