SUNDERLAND have been linked with a move for a second French midfielder during the transfer window, writes Chris Young.
The Black Cats made their first January acquisition this week after bringing in Alfred N’Diaye in a £3.8million move from Turkish outfit Bursaspor.
But reports have also linked Sunderland with a move for French international Moussa Sissoko, who is out of contract at Toulouse at the end of the season.
The Football Echo understands Sissoko was in talks with Newcastle during the week after a Magpies delegation headed to France in an attempt to seal fresh faces.
But Sunderland are said to be readying a £3.5m bid for Sissoko, with Toulouse eager to cash in on the 25-year-old, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.
There is no shortage of interest in the 22-year-old though, with Marseille, Monaco and Spurs also tracking him.
But this is not the first time Sunderland have been linked with a player on Newcastle’s radar during a transfer window.
Last January, the Black Cats were said to be preparing a bid for Papiss Demba Cisse and it was a similar situation during the summer when Sunderland were linked with Vurnon Anita.
On neither occasion were Sunderland were readying serious bids, even though they had scouted both players.
