SUNDERLAND will start the new Premier League campaign at West Brom - the team they completed the Great Escape against in May.

The Black Cats have been handed a trip to the Hawthorns on the opening day of the campaign, where they will face a Baggies side under the stewardship of new manager Alan Irvine.

The game will see new Sunderland signing Billy Jones immediately face his former club, while West Brom new boy Craig Gardner faces the reverse scenario.

Gus Poyet’s side then face a daunting first Stadium of Light clash of the season against Manchester United - again a side under new management, with new Reds boss Louis Van Gaal facing his opening game on the road.

The chance for Sunderland to extend their three-game winning streak over rivals Newcastle United comes just before Christmas, with the Black Cats making the trip to St James’s Park on December 20, with the reverse fixture on April 4.

Sunderland face Hull at home on Boxing Day and Manchester City away on New Year’s Day, while they will end the season with a trip to Chelsea.
