SUNDERLAND will travel to League One outfit MK Dons in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
The Black Cats were last night handed a trip to stadium:mk as reward for conquering Morecambe in the second round of the competition.
Martin O’Neill’s men will face Karl Robinson’s side, who this week added former Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard to the fold, on the week beginning Monday, September 24, with ticket details yet to be announced.
The tie is likely to be played on Tuesday, September 25, and must be a real possibility for live TV coverage by Sky.
MK won through impressively at home in the second round on Tuesday, beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at home. Midfielder Luke Chadwick netted both goals to send Steve Kean’s men crashing out.
Sunderland have only ever faced the Dons in their previous incarnation of Wimbledon – winning the last meeting between the sides in April 2004, thanks to goals from Marcus Stewart and Darren Byfield.
The game was played in Milton Keynes – at the former National Hockey Stadium, and not stadium:mk – following Wimbledon’s controversial move out of London.
Newcastle have been handed a daunting trip to Manchester United, while Middlesbrough are also away, to League One club Preston.
