David Moyes has confirmed Sunderland will offer Lamine Kone a new contract.
Kone had slapped in a transfer request, with a move to Everton on the cards for a fee of £18million.
Kone released a statement last night spelling out his desire to leave the Black Cats and revealing that the lack of a new contract offer was the main reason for his decision.
But Moyes has confirmed at his weekly press conference that the 27-year-old defender will be offered a new deal on September 1, the day after the transfer window closes.
Moyes told reporters: "We've told Lamine Kone he will be offered a new contract in September.
"Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on the 1 September."
"Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him."
Everton have been strongly linked with an £18million swoop for the centre-back, who became a cult hero after joining from Lorient in January and playing a key role in helping Sunderland stay in the Premier League.
