GUS POYET says tomorrow’s trip to Manchester City is the ultimate test of Sunderland’s resilience on the road.

The Black Cats are undefeated in their last six Premier League outings away from home after taking 12 points in that run of games.

That’s a stark contrast to Sunderland’s form at the Stadium of Light, where they have won just once in the top flight since November’s success against Man City.

But facing City on their own patch is a different proposition, with the Premier League’s top scorers netting 42 times in their 12 outings at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Poyet said today: “We are better away from home for some reason.

“Whether it’s the way we play or not, it’s better for us.

“But now comes the big ones for us with Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, so we will see whether we are good enough in these games.

“Man City are one of the best teams in the country, that’s clear.”

Poyet’s former club Chelsea became the first sie to take points off City on their own patch last week when Jose Mourinho’s men triumphed 1-0.

“Chelsea did plenty of things very well, but with the power of the players in their midfield and their speed on the break, we don’t have those players,” added Poyet.

“But there are options for us because of the way Manchester City play.

“They’ve been outstanding at home, except last week because Chelsea were better, not because Man City were bad.

“If we have any chances of getting points, we need to be good - organised, strong physically and very good mentally.

“If we go there just to defend, it will be impossible.”
