THE damage to Nicklas Bendtner’s eye will be assessed this week to see whether he’ll be sidelined for Sunday’s FA Cup visit of Middlesbrough.
The Danish striker took a boot in the face from Swansea defender Angel Rangel in only the ninth minute of Saturday’s game and was clearly in pain as he received treatment before being substituted.
The injury was accidental – but the swelling was severe in the minutes after he went down the tunnel and manager Martin O’Neill confirmed: “Nicklas is very sore looking. His eye is really bad. Coming off the field he couldn’t see anything out it.
“We’re hoping it’s going to be a bit of tissue damage that will settle down, but there’s a worry he might have cracked something. We’ll wait and see, but certainly but he’s not great.”
