SUNDERLAND have agreed a fee with Brighton for their main January target Liam Bridcutt, the Echo understands.
The Black Cats have been pursuing Bridcutt throughout the transfer window after the 24-year-old made his name under Sunderland boss Gus Poyet during their time together with the Seagulls.
Brighton rejected a bid of around £2million earlier this month, while Bridcutt handed in a transfer request at the Amex Stadium.
But the two clubs are now understood to have reached an agreement of around £3m and Bridcutt is due on Wearside to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.
Bridcutt will become the fifth January arrival at the Stadium of Light, providing Argentine winger Nacho Scocco completes his move from Brazilian club Internacional today.
And the former Chelsea youngster’s capture will raise questions over the future of fellow defensive midfielder Lee Cattermole, who remains in the sights of Stoke City.
Potters boss Mark Hughes refused to confirm or deny whether he was still interested in Cattermole after last night’s meeting at the Stadium of Light, with the 25-year-old missing the game through an injury.
