Sunderland AFC news: West Brom boss says David Moyes must adapt to relegation scrap, injury news, striker hailed

Pulis has backed Moyes to get it right in the North East but believes, after his time at Manchester United and Everton, the Scot needs to rework his style to survive.

"You have to spend a long time working out how you're going to get results," he told PA Sport.

"You've got to play to your players' strengths, you've got to work a system out that will enable that team to get points.

"Irrespective of how they play and don't play the important thing as a manager is to give yourself enough time to push the team forward.

"To do that you need results, you need to stay in the league. There will be different experiences for David without a question of a doubt.

"I've a lot of respect for David and he's joined a club that has to fight and scrap and work hard to get the points that's needed to maintain Premier League status.

"I don't think he had that at Everton at all.

"He built and put in place a club that was looking more at (the) top six than bottom six so this is a new experience for him, but he's a top man, a top football manager and I'm sure he'll get through it."

Moyes believes that the exposure to competitive first-team action at such a tender age can only benefit him, and fellow promising forward, 17-year-old Josh Maja.

“They still need to make sure they can score, but I think they can cause problems with their movement. But, at 17, he is doing really well, the boy.”Meanwhile, the Baggies are expected to be unchanged but Saido Berahino is expected to return to the squad after overcoming a stomach bug which forced him out of the 1-1 draw at Stoke last week.

Boss Tony Pulis has no fresh injury concerns with James Morrison fit after a long-term hamstring issue and, while Chris Brunt has returned to training after six months out with a knee injury, he will not be included in the first-team squad until after the international break.
