Damien Da Silva won't be heading to the Stadium of Light after the defender turned down a move, according to reports in France.
Sunderland, who yesterday captured the signing of Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff, are reported to have made a move for 27-year-old Da Silva earlier this week.
French newspaper L'Equipe are reporting Sunderland contacted French side Caen - before they signed Kirchhoff - in the hope of adding Da Silva to their squad.
But the player is reported to have turned the approach down, with L'Equipe adding he did not wish to join the struggling Black Cats, who are 19th in the Premier League.
Sam Allardyce has confirmed he is not in the market for another centre-back after signing Kirchhoff.
Meanwhile, Allardyce has revealed his transfer targets for the January window - with the Black Cats boss turning his attentions to bringing in a new striker after completing a deal for centre-half Kirchhoff.
And the Echo understands that a right-back is also on the radar for Sunderland, with those two positions now the priority for the Black Cats in the remainder of the January transfer window.
Sunderland completed the first signing of Allardyce’s tenure last night when defender Kirchhoff penned an 18-month deal at the Stadium of Light after arriving in a £750,000 move from Bayern Munich.
