It has been an eventful day at the Stadium of Light - with Sunderland sacking Emmanuel Eboue just 22 days after he signed for the club.

It follows the former Ivory Coast defender being handed a one year ban from world football governing body FIFA.

FIFA today issued a statement confirming that Eboue is suspended from all football activity for the next year, unless he settles a debt with his former agent.

And Sunderland reacted to that news by terminating Eboue's contract, less than a month after the 32-year-old penned a short-term contract at the Stadium of Light.

He has two weeks to appeal the decision.

"The suspension relates to a monetary dispute between the player and a former agent, which precedes his time at Sunderland AFC and was not something that the club was made aware of by the player," said a club statement.

"Eboue signed a contract with Sunderland AFC until the end of the current season and the club has therefore given notice of its intention to terminate the contract. "

Meanwhile, Sunderland's scouting network have been keeping tabs on several transfer targets away on international duty during the break from Premier League action.

The Black Cats’ bid to remain in the top flight rests on a knife-edge as they prepare to resume their survival bid in a crunch encounter against West Brom this weekend.

But the uncertainty over Sunderland’s Premier League status has not halted the club’s search for new recruits after scouts have watched several friendlies during the international break.

Sunderland were among the English clubs represented for Austria’s clash against Turkey on Tuesday night, with Everton, Stoke and Leicester also present in Vienna.
And finally, Sam Allardyce is holding his press conference this afternoon - and we've got it covered!
