Jermain Defoe rescued a last-gasp injury-time equaliser for Sunderland at Stoke City.

But who scooped the man of the match award in the 1-1 draw?

Richard Mennear gives his player ratings below:

Sunderland (4-1-4-1):

Vito Mannone: Made a smart save to deny Crouch first half. Solid aside from that, could do little with the goal, ball was too close to him....6

DeAndre Yedlin: Didn't do enough to prevent crosses. Arnautovic was Stoke dangerman because he had so much time on the ball. Poor clearances too...5

Lamine Kone: Had a tough afternoon competing with Peter Crouch. The former England striker won most headers. Failed to deal with danger for opening goal....5

Younes Kaboul: Appeals for a foul but Kaboul beaten too easily in the air by Crouch for opener. Made some important challenges to prevent Stoke adding to score.....5

Patrick van Aanholt: Similar to Yedlin, didn't stop the Stoke crosses at source. Offensively was more of a threat than Yedlin.....6

Jan Kirchhoff: Saw plenty of the ball but didn't do enough with it in the centre. Sunderland were poor and got out of jail with a last-gasp point.....5

Fabio Borini: Put in a shift down the right, helping to cover for Yedlin who was struggling but offensively Borini was poor and offered little. Subbed.....5

Lee Cattermole (C): Set the tone in the opening 30 seconds sending Bardsley crashing to the turf. Like a terrier in the centre first half. Influence waned....6

Yann M'Vila: Passing radar was off first half, Sunderland couldn't quite gain control in midfield. Sunderland need him back firing on all cylinders....5

Wahbi Khazri: Set pieces not as dangerous as normal and his decision making was poor at times. No surprise to see him hooked before the hour....5

Jermain Defoe: Too many long balls again, was restricted to shots from outside the area. Rescued a point with cool finish from the spot. MOM purely for goal...6

Subs:

Duncan Watmore (for Khazri, 59): Should have been awarded a penalty, was fouled by Pieters. Added some energy in final third....6

Dame N'Doye (for Borini, 59): Conceded too many silly free-kicks and was generally poor in and out of possession. Booked...5

Seb Larsson (for Kirchhoff, 77): His set pieces were more of a threat than Khazri. Booked....6

Subs Not Used: Pickford, Jones, O’Shea, Rodwell.

Booked: N'Doye (78, foul), Larsson (89, foul)
