DANNY Rose’s future is under review but for the moment he remains firmly a Spurs player, writes GRAEME ANDERSON.
The England Under-21 defender (pictured) returned to White Hart Lane last week after completing a season-long loan with Sunderland and being ineligible for yesterday’s clash.
And after impressing everyone at the Stadium of Light and hinting at his willingness to make the move to the North East a permanent one, Sunderland will look to sign the full-back this summer.
But Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas made it clear yesterday that Rose is not a player the Londoners are keen to offload.
“At the moment, Danny goes to the Under-21 Championship with England and will then return to our squad,” said the Portuguese.
“He has had a great season in Sunderland. We are aware of it.
“He’s a player we have to consider.
“There are decisions to be made at this club in the summer. We have to look to build, but we are also aware that we have to hold on to good players to improve as a club.”
Rose was at the game yesterday and will have heard his name chanted by Sunderland fans several times.
Spurs plan big signings this summer and one of those could be a left-back, a move which would put a big question mark over Rose’s future. But, for the moment, the only thing that looks certain is that it could take months of negotiation before Sunderland find out whether or not they will get their man.
