YOUNG GUN GETS CHANCE TO IMPRESS: Arsenal rookie Anthony Stokes could seal a one-year loan deal at Sunderland today.

He will be included in a training ground friendly against South Korea under-20s this afternoon.

The Dubliner has climbed through the ranks at Highbury and can operate as a striker or in midfield.

CLARKE SET TO SIGN: Sunderland hope to sign West Ham full-back Clive Clarke in time for Sunday’s opening game against Coventry City.

And manager Niall Quinn added today that he is also interested in Swiss midfielder Ricardo Cabanas.

WHITEHEAD STAYS PUT: Dean Whitehead signed a new deal with Sunderland today, ending speculation about his future.

The midfield dynamo has been the subject of a £2m bid from Reading this summer and was also linked with Liverpool last season.
