Back to life, back to reality. Sunderland failed dismally to build on last week’s 4-0 win at Crystal Palace as visitors Southampton ran out convincing 4-0 winners at the Stadium of Light today.

The Black Cats remain at the bottom of the table, with a poor all-round performance, after an encouraging start, being capitalised on by a Southampton side who had won just one of their last seven Premier League games. Manolo Gabbiadini’s brace did the damage before Jason Denayer’s own goal and a strike from Shane Long made it four in the closing stages. Relive the day’s action on our matchday blog.
