We hosted a live Q&A with Sunderland reporter Chris Young - and you fired a range of questions at him.

Who Sunderland will look to sign in January was a hot topic, while the future of Jermain Defoe and Lee Congerton were also discussed.

Plus should the Black Cats recall Jordan Pickford from his loan spell at Preston North End?

Here are some of the highlights. Recap the full Q&A here:

Should Jermain Defoe be a definite starter?

CY: As Allardyce has said, he's the only "natural" finisher in Sunderland's ranks. That was again highlighted against Watford, albeit Defoe might not have been fit enough to start.

For me, if you're going to play with three at the back, then Defoe has to be one of the front two.

What is the latest with sporting director Lee Congerton's future?

CY: I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with the situation over the coming months.

Congerton still remains at the club, despite his position being VERY uncertain when Advocaat left.

From what I understand, Allardyce is happy to work with him on transfers though.

Would centre-back Kone from Lorient be a good signing?

CY: From speaking to contacts in France, he's been desperate to move to the PL for a while and was a player Big Sam looked at while he was in charge at West Ham.

Kone thought he would leave Lorient last summer, but they didn't receive any acceptable offers.

But having a player eager to prove himself in the PL is a big plus, and Sunderland clearly need at least one more centre-half.

Should Jordan Pickford be recalled?

CY: I certainly think there's a case for bringing him back. Not sure how many other members of the Under-21s are ready for the first-team.

However, it's good to see that the likes of Ethan Robson and Rees Greenwood - who both have a chance - have been training with the first-team.

Is there genuine interest in QPR striker Charlie Austin?

CY: They've definitely been watching him Michael. Whether that is with a view to January or the summer...

Judging by Austin's comments this week that he wants to leave QPR on a Bosman at the end of the season, it might be a summer transfer saga.

Do you think we need at least one new player in all positions except goalkeeper?

CY: Not sure there'll be that many!

They're clearly prioritising a centre-half, hence the talks with Lamine Kone and the pursuit of James Collins.

With Catts and Larsson out, I think they need another centre-mid, and another left-footed left-back would be very handy!
