Sunderland were outclassed by Porto - but who stood out for the Black Cats?

Sunderland (4-4-2)

Max Stryjek: Dived low to his left to save a Kayembe penalty but in the end it mattered little. Didn't do much wrong but picked the ball out of his own net five times.....6

Josh Robson: Caught out for the opening goal. Tough night for the Sunderland defence against a superb Porto forward line. Kept at it though....5

Donald Love: Endured a tough evening at centre-back and gave away a penalty, Stryjek got him out of jail. Booked. Won't be banging on first team door anytime soon....5

Tom Beadling: Vocal and organised at the back but a tough evening against a rampant Porto side. Sunderland were outclassed...5

Denver Hume: Fond of a tackle. Booked. Had his hands full with Kayembe first half. The Belgian forward was superb....5

Lynden Gooch: Sunderland needed to use him more. Booked. Won't have done his first team chances much good....5

Elliot Embleton: Probably the pick of the Sunderland players. Tidy in possession...6

Ethan Robson (C): Gave the ball away too easily at times and was on the end of some crunching tackles....5

Rees Greenwood: Showed some purpose down the left wing. Showed flashes but nothing more....5

Josh Maja: Service was limited given how much Porto had the ball...5

Joel Asoro: Similar to Maja, tried to make things happen second half but it just wasn't happening for Sunderland....5

Subs:

Luke Molyneux (for E. Robson, 45): Added some drive down the right wing, with Gooch moved inside....5

Andrew Nelson (for Greenwood, 60): Didn't have a huge impact....5

Owen Gamble (for Gooch, 75): Game was well and truly over when he came on...5
