Peter Reid is set to take charge of a Sunderland XI yet again.
But don’t get too excited Black Cats fans, this won’t be at the Stadium of Light, or instead of current manager David Moyes.
Reid will be taking the reins of a Sunderland XI with bat and ball at the Emirates Riverside as part of the testimonial year celebrations for Durham County Cricket Club legend and famous SAFC fan Paul Collingwood.
And just to add a bit of extra spice to the T20 clash, the opponents will be a Newcastle side, led by Magpies legend Kevin Keegan.
The special match, which will take place on Sunday, August 20, will be the first ever Wear-Tyne T20 clash held at the the home of Durham CCC.
Donning his beloved red and white stripes, Collingwood will lead a star-filled Sunderland side, with Durham stars of past and present as well as a few surprise faces from the football world, into battle as skipper.
After 21 years of cricket for Durham and England, Collingwood has made more appearances for his home county than anyone – 201 – and scored more centuries - 22.
The three-times Ashes winner made his debut in 1995, scoring 91 in his maiden first class innings in 1996.
The match - sponsored by Infiniti Newcastle and M24Seven - is also raising funds for the Graham Wylie Foundation, to support their work of improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the region.
Gates open at Noon with play starting at 2.30pm.
Advance tickets are priced at £10, or £15 on the day.
