DEADLINE day signing Liam Bridcutt has been handed a baptism of fire in today’s Tyne-Wear derby after being thrown straight into the Sunderland starting XI.
Bridcutt replaced Seb Larsson in the only change from the side which beat Stoke City in midweek.
But there was a place on the bench for Bridcutt’s fellow new boy Nacho Scocco, who replaced the injured Steven Fletcher.
Newcastle also made just one change with Shola Ameobi replacing the suspended Loic Remy. New signing Luuk de Jong was among the substitutes.
