Sunderland's dismal run of form continues after a 4-1 hammering at Manchester City.

In truth it could, and should, have been more with the Black Cats producing a woeful opening 45 minutes.

Things improved slightly after the break but the damage had already been done by then.

Who scooped the man of the match gong though? Richard Mennear gives his player ratings here:

Sunderland: (4-3-3)

Vito Mannone: First league start of the season. Didn't get anywhere near any of the goals. Confidence is shot to pieces. Made two good saves second half. 4/10

Billy Jones: At fault for Sterling's opening header and didn't get any better after that. A dismal day for the defence. Again. 2/10

John O'Shea (C): Was beaten far too easily by Bony for City's third goal of the afternoon. Defensively, Sunderland were all over the place. 3/10

Sebastian Coates: No better than O'Shea. It was men against boys at times in the opening 45 minutes. Gave away penalty, although foul was outside area. 3/10

Patrick van Aanholt: Caught out defensively, made a few runs forward and produced a few crosses but nothing came of them. 3/10

Yann M'Vila: Tough afternoon for the French midfielder. Was chasing shadows with the rest of the Sunderland midfield. Subbed early on. Looked jaded. 4/10

Jordi Gomez: Was at fault for Yaya Toure's goal to make it 2-0. Stood off him, and he needed no invitation to shoot. Made the same mistake minutes later. 2/10

Adam Johnson: Produced some nice passes in the opening stages so set Sunderland free but nothing came of it. Was chasing shadows too. 4/10

Fabio Borini: MOM. Sunderland's brightest player. Full of running when he had the ball and forced Joe Hart into a save at his near post. Got his goal second half. 6/10

Danny Graham: Surprisingly in from the start and played on the right wing. Missed a good header. Didn't do much aside from that. 4/10

Steven Fletcher: Feeding off scraps up front, no support and little quality into him. Missed a half chance first half. Subbed. 4/10

Subs:

Lee Cattermole (for M'Vila, 55): Within two minutes of being on had produced an assist. Fortunate though. 5/10

Jeremain Lens (for Fletcher, 62): Played up front when he came on, did little though with the side already 4-1 down. 5/10

Duncan Watmore (for Graham, 71): On as a second-half sub for Graham. Didn't do a great deal to impact proceedings. 5/10
