MARTIN O’Neill today admitted Sunderland have made bids for a “number of players” despite refusing to confirm the Black Cats’ interest in Wolves striker Steven Fletcher.
Sunderland are thought to have had a £10million bid for Fletcher turned down earlier this week and are now considering their options over the summer-long pursuit for the 25-year-old.
While O’Neill maintained his policy of refusing to comment on individual targets, the Sunderland boss says the Wearsiders have made concrete offers for several players.
O’Neill said: “I can’t obviously mention particular players, but we’re definitely in the market to try to improve the squad.
“It’s pretty obvious where we’re looking to try to strengthen and of course we’re going to be linked with a lot of players.
“It’s not right to publicise what we’re doing at this minute.
“But we have made a number of bids for a number of players and we’re still waiting to hear back.”
