UNITED States coach Jurgen Klinsmann was pleased with Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore’s performance in ,last night’s 2-1 friendly loss to Colombia at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.
Altidore put the Americans ahead from the penalty spot, scoring his 25th international goal.
His international successes are a huge contrast to his club troubles – he has struggled to make appearances for the Black Cats, following a disappointing first campaign on Wearside last term.
Klinsmann, whose men now look ahead to a Tuesday friendly with the Republic of Ireland, said of Altidore: “I know his difficult situation with his club team,. We hope that his situation will change and that his coach will start him.
“We know when he comes to us he is full of energy, he is one of our most experienced players.
“Today it really helped him that he had someone with him in attack, Rubin was there to help him and that gives him more confidence.
“This is the Jozy Altidore that we know and I think tonight’s performance will help him.”
