NEW caretaker manager Kevin Ball will still take charge of Sunderland Under 21 development squad’s game against Middlesbrough U21s at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground in Hetton tonight.
The long-serving former club skipper, and current U21 squad manager, was put in temporary charge of the club last night in the wake of Paolo Di Canio’s sacking.
Ball took charge of training today and is now focusing on the club’s League Cup game against Peterborough at the Stadium of Light tomorrow night.
But he still plans to carry out his Under 21 duties this evening hoping to continue the junior side’s positive start to the current campaign.
A larger than expected crowd can be expected at the ground tonight with Sunderland fans still abuzz with the news and the fall-out of the sacking of the controversial Italian after the 3-0 defeat to West Brom at the weekend.
And Ball’s team selection this evening might even give a few pointers to who might be involved in his first senior squad tomorrow.
Cabral and David Moberg Karlsson were given a run-out for the Under 21s in their last match to give them game-time.
And there could be more first-team fringe players getting run outs this evening.
The game kicks off at 7pm.
