Sunderland are going to the Peace Cup in South Korea and so is the Sunderland Echo – thanks to Alex Smiles Ltd.
The Deptford-based waste management company has given its backing to the newspaper’s coverage of the club’s pre-season trip.
And that means the Echo will be the only English newspaper covering the progress of Martin O’Neill’s men from their base in Suwon.
Graeme Anderson, who will be sending daily articles, interviews and match reports back from South Korea next week, is pictured with Alex Smiles’ sons, John and Stuart, after their sponsorship was agreed.
John said: “It’s an important season for Sunderland and important that the people of Sunderland get as much information about what’s going on as possible.
“So we’re happy to support the Echo’s trip out there and proud that we’re able to help fans get all the news they want about what’s happening.”
