Sunderland-born Jordan Henderson’s rise to England captain will come as no surprise to Sunderland and Liverpool fans worldwide.

Jordan made his debut for Sunderland as a half-time substitute in a 5-0 defeat away at Chelsea in November 1, 2008, and since then, hasn’t looked back.

Henderson then signed for Liverpool on June 9, 2011 and has followed in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard to become club captain of the Merseyside giants.

Here is a slideshow of images to celebrate his rise to the top. Well done Jordan!
