SCOTTISH side Hibernian have won the race for in-demand Sunderland winger Duncan Watmore.
The 19-year-old has attracted a host of admirers since arriving at the Stadium of Light from non-league Altrincham during the summer.
Several Football League and Scottish Premier League sides were vying to take him on loan, but Hibs - managed by ex-Sunderland boss Terry Butcher - have signed Watmore until the end of the season.
Butcher watched Watmore in action for Sunderland Under-21s a fortnight ago and the Black Cats will hope that the promising wideman, who made his first-team debut in the FA Cup third round victory over Carlisle earlier this month, can continue his development north of the border.
“Duncan is a quick, direct winger with a good work-rate,” said Butcher.
“He is a young player, who has impressed me with his intelligence on the pitch, eye for goal and quality deliveries into the box.
“Duncan has already made his first team debut at Sunderland and he is highly-rated by the coaching staff there. We’re pleased to be able to add him to the squad.”
