SUNDERLAND notched their most convincing victory of pre-season so far after coming from behind to beat Hartlepool United 3-1.
Buoyed by a rousing ovation for testimonial recipient Ritchie Humphreys, hosts Pools made a lightning quick start and took the lead when former Newcastle United winger Nolberto Solano slid home.
But the Black Cats gradually made their superior quality count, with Pools struggling to cope with the attacking threat of front two Stephane Sessegnon and Asamoah Gyan.
It was Gyan who drew Sunderland level before the break when he marginally beat the offside trap to head Seb Larsson’s cross in off the post.
Sunderland took the lead early in the second half when Jack Colback collected Kieran Richardson’s pass and thrashed the ball under Pools keeper Scott Flinders.
And the victory was rounded off when the impressive Larsson opened his account for the Black Cats, with a crisp finish to Sessegnon’s pull-back.
