Gary Rowell: Sunderland’s Richardson revelled at Blackpool

Have your say

HAD Darren Bent still been here then Kieran Richardson would not have played in that role against Blackpool. We would almost certainly have played 4-4-2.

But sometimes things happen in football that you make the most of.

Blackpool couldn’t handle Richardson because he played that role so well behind Gyan.

Maybe it’s more suited to an away performance but technically he bamboozled them.

Like all Premier League teams, Blackpool will have scouted the opposition but they will probably have seen Sunderland play 4-4-2 in every game.

Suddenly Sunderland went into the game with a different formation and Blackpool didn’t have an answer to it.

Richardson had the run of the park and they couldn’t pick him up when he found pockets of space.

Because he was so positive, he just seemed to revel in the role.

There were two good assists for his goals and it was a sublime pass from Gyan for the first.

It was a great run from Richardson and he got picked out.
