Gary Rowell: Break will do Sunderland good

Have your say

I WOULD much rather we were in the FA Cup this weekend but you have to take the positives and the two-week break will help us.

I just got the feeling in the last 10 minutes against Spurs that we looked a bit leggy.

The one silver lining is we’ve got two weeks now for the injured players to get back and the others to have a breather.

We looked short of energy in the second half against Spurs and someone like Sulley Muntari, who had played three games in a week, was running out of steam.

Steve Bruce has definitely done the right thing in letting the players have a few days off because sometimes it is good to totally switch off.

It has been a tough season and they are a young squad and every now and again it catches up on you.

Sometimes all it needs is to completely switch off, come back towards the end of the week and then have a really good week of training.

Since Christmas, there have been a few midweek games and they have not had the players to freshen them up which has put extra strain on the players who are fit.
