WELL, if there’s one way to beat a fellow relegation rival and move out the bottom three, that seems to be it!, writes Matthew Foster.
Three points, four goals, a clean sheet and confidence oozing from every orifice.
Yes, we had a man advantage, but, at 2-0, a Cardiff goal could have made it a nervy second half. But we kept plugging away, and killed them off with two excellent goals.
That definitely was the most comfortable Sunderland have looked at home in a long, long time!
Special mention must go once again to Connor Wickham. That’s five goals in three games now.
He’s maturing into the player we hoped for when we paid more than £8m to Ipswich. If he keeps it up, and keeps us up, then it will be money well spent.
Another special mention must go to us, the fans. It was magnificent to see the stadium so full, especially with the game live on Sky.
The atmosphere was electric, but we need repeat attendances in the two remaining home games now, as we look to survive against all odds.
But it’s to Old Trafford next. Let’s hope we have something to celebrate like the last time.
