SUNDERLAND striker Ji Dong-won has been linked with a return to former club Chunnam Dragons.
Reports in the Korean press suggest Chunnam are ready to pay £1million to take the 21-year-old back to South Korea, although Sunderland are keen to recoup the bulk of the £2.5million they invested to bring the frontman to Wearside 18 months ago.
Ji is yet to feature for Sunderland’s first-team this season and has struggled to make an impression for the Black Cats Under-21s.
German Bundesliga outfit Augsburg have been in talks with Sunderland over a January loan move for Ji, who netted twice in 19 Premier League appearances during his maiden season at the Stadium of Light.
But Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill told the Echo earlier this month that there was competition for Ji’s signature.
“Augsburg have been in touch and would be interested in Ji, but they are not the only club who want to take him,” said O’Neill.
Ji came through the ranks at Chunnam and scored 16 times in 44 appearances for the Korean outfit.
