JERMAIN Defoe made his Stadium of Light debut in a Sunderland shirt, as Gus Poyet named a strong side for today’s FA Cup fourth round clash against Fulham.

There were just three changes from Poyet, with Liam Bridcutt and Sebastian Coates replacing injured pair Adam Johnson and Wes Brown, while Vito Mannone made his first competitive appearance since November in goal.

Ex-England midfielder Scott Parker nor £11million striker Ross McCormack were in the Fulham side, as Cottagers boss Kit Symons made four changes to his starting XI.

SUNDERLAND: Mannone, Jones, van Aanholt, O’Shea, Coates, Vergini, Bridcutt, Larsson, Rodwell, Fletcher, Defoe. Subs: Pantilimon, Wickham, Gomez, Graham, Alvarez, Giaccherini, Buckley.

FULHAM: Bettinelli, Grimmer, Hutchinson, Bodurov, Stafylidis, Tunnicliffe, Fofana, Christensen, Ruiz, Woodrow, Dembele. Subs: Kiraly, Zverotic, Burn, Roberts, Kacaniklic, Rodallega, McCormack.
