AS much as I tell myself “we weren’t going to win the cup anyway” or “it’ll give our players an extra rest”, going out of the third round to a side two leagues below is disappointing to say the least.
Notts County were the better side and deserved the victory. The defeat just shows the lack of strength in depth we have.
It’s clear to see that Da Silva and Riveros aren’t good enough to play in the Premier League. Da Silva was given a rough ride all afternoon by journeyman striker Lee Hughes and, let’s face it, if you can’t deal with him, you’re not going to be able to deal with Torres, Tevez, Drogba etc.
As for Riveros, I gave him the benefit of the doubt after his first few performances. Obviously it takes time to settle in, but when you can’t impose yourself on Notts County’s midfield, you really can’t be that good.
Angeleri didn’t impress either. It’s only his first game, so I don’t want to criticise too much, but his distribution was shocking.
I don’t think Andy Reid will play again for Sunderland. He was absolutely woeful and, with his contract being up in the summer, now is the time to get rid.
The good thing is that against Newcastle the majority of the team that played in the cup will be replaced and hopefully we can put right the awful performance in October.
