CARLISLE’S bid to land released Sunderland winger Jordan Cook could be scuppered by interest from the Championship.
Easington Lane’s Cook was handed a free transfer by the Black Cats last month and immediately became a target for the Cumbrians after a loan spell at Brunton Park last season.
Cook scored four goals in six starts after joining the League One outfit on loan in January and Carlisle boss Greg Abbott remains keen to land the 22-year-old.
But Abbott admits Carlisle are beginning to look at alternative targets, as Cook’s future continues to remain unresolved.
“The last we heard from Jordan Cook was that he was also talking to a Championship club,” Abbott said.
“If everything gets finalised there then it’s something he has to do for his own personal development and we accept that.
“We do like Jordan for what he did with us when he was here and it’s a situation where the door isn’t as open as it was a few weeks ago because he is talking to this Championship club and we have to make sure we are covering all of our own angles.”
