Summer signing Adam Matthews will make his full Sunderland debut in tomorrow’s Capital One Cup second round clash with Exeter.

Head coach Dick Advocaat today confirmed that ex-Celtic man Matthews will start against the Grecians, with fellow right back Billy Jones not risked due to a slight knee problem.

Jeremain Lens will also be left out due to a knock, although both the Dutch international and Jones should be fit for Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa.

“Lens had some problems with his knee, but he and Jones should be okay for Saturday,” said Advocaat.

Meanwhile, youngsters Lynden Gooch and Tommy Robson will both be on the bench.
