The 45-year-old is one of the Black Cats' top targets to replace David Moyes, impressing after securing three consecutive second place finishes in the top tier of the Scottish game.

His Aberdeen side have the chance to land their second trophy of his reign when they take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park tomorrow.

McInnes insists he is unfazed by the speculation and focusing on the showdown with Brendan Rodgers.

“I’m aware of the speculation but I’m thinking about winning this game. I have demanded focus from the players," he told TalkSport.

“I’m really happy at Aberdeen and I’ve had great experiences here and still believe there could be more to come.

“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the players in recent weeks and we’ve still been getting good results, and for now our complete focus is on this game.”
