ARGENTINE ace Ignacio Scocco is expected to be formally unveiled as Gus Poyet’s fourth January transfer window signing today.
The 28-year-old arrived in the North East yesterday and was at the Stadium of Light to watch his new team-mates beat Stoke and escape the bottom three for the first time since August.
A deal expected to be in the region of £4m has been agreed between Sunderland and Brazilian side Internacional, with the attacker agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal.
Poyet has spoken of his belief that Scocco will add a guile and creativity to Sunderland in the final third of the pitch and will both create and finish chances.
The Black Cats are still averaging less than a goal a game in the Premier League, despite last night bouncing out of the relegation zone courtesy of their 1-0 win over the Potters. Poyet told the Echo: “Scocco is different to what we have and I think he will be a big asset to the club.
“I see him as a striker, possibly in a front three, but wherever he plays he has a lovely touch and movement and a great eye for goal.”
