SUNDERLAND made a “cheeky” inquiry about Stoke full back Geoff Cameron, the city’s newspaper has claimed.

The Sentinel reported that an inquiry from the Black Cats received short shrift from Stoke because of the American international’s increasing value to the cause.

The newspaper claimed the enquiry “was not thought to be linked” to Stoke’s on-going pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole.

Cameron, 28, has become a key player in Stoke’s line-up, with 64 first-team appearances since arriving from Houston Dynamo in 2012.
