MARTIN O’Neill says Sunderland must use the match against Norwich this weekend to erase the pain of their defeat to basement side QPR.
The Black Cats’ lost 3-1 to the Londoners at Loftus Road last Saturday in a result which helped transform the picture at the foot of the Premier League.
And with Sunderland now in danger of genuinely dropping into the relegation mix-up, O’Neill wants to see this Sunday’s match against the Canaries (1.30pm kick-off) relieve the pressure on his side.
“The next game is a good one to focus on,” he said today.
“We’ve been beaten by QPR which was always going to be a challenging game for us after they’d been buoyed by a victory in their previous match.
“It was disappointing for us, no question about that and we have to pull ourselves out of that.
“But the game against Norwich is a good one to do that.
“We’ve got home advantage and we’ll be doing everything we can to put it right.”
Sunderland expect to be boosted by the availability of Danny Rose, who successfully came through his comeback as a second-half substitute last week.
O’Neill said: “Danny Rose coming off the bench should help immensely.
“He felt a little tightness afterwards, which was to be expected, but he has been OK generally and hopefully he’ll be fine to play this weekend.”
