Northern League: Swales determined to guide Sunderland RCA into the FA Vase's last 32

Manager Martin Swales said: “We had a great run last year and we’re hoping to emulate that against Dunston.

“Last year we got to the last 32 and want to do that again this year. I am confident in our ability get us there.”

Ross Preston and Adam McGuinness are cup-tied, but Clayton Davis is back in the squad after being away with work commitments.

Kevin Gordon is back from holiday, but Ross McNab is out with a back injury and Michael Charlton needs a late fitness test.”

Dunston UTS only secured the RCA tie by beating Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday.

Secretary Bill Montague said: “Hopefully we will be at full strength. The only doubt will be Liam Thear as he may have picked up an injury in midweek.

“The squad will be boosted by the return of Aiden McGee and we are expecting a really tough game.”

Shildon travel to First Division leaders North Shields for a very attractive tie.

Robins manager Jon McDonald said: “It’s a big game for both clubs who have ambitions to progress in the competition.

“We are looking forward to the game and hope we get a good turnout from our fans, who have been brilliant for us once again this season.

“We’ve prepared well for the game and we will be giving everything to ensure we get into the next round.”

South Shields are at home to Staveley MW, from the Northern Counties East League’s Premier Division.

Striker Gavin Cogdon is still out injured, but Shields hope he will be fit again inside a fortnight.

Left-back Anthony Callaghan is cup-tied, but new signing Darren Holden is available. Injury rules out captain Leepaul Scroggins.

Secretary Philip Reay said: “Dillon Morse, who came on as a substitute last week, came through the game well following an injury, so he’s in contention to start.

“We’re playing in the third round of the FA Vase and would like to win, as we went out in third round last year. Hopefully we’ll be able to go one better this year and get to the fourth round. We would like to go all the way and win it.”

On-song Billingham Town, with Craig Hutchinson their danger man, travel to Bottesford Town, from the Northern Counties East League First Division.
