McAloon at the double to give Bishop Auckland lift-off

Thomas McAloon fired Bishops ahead on 25 minutes following Alex Francis’s inswinging corner.

McAloon doubled the lead on 64 minutes, breaking from defence and smashing a shot high into Shaun Newbrook’s net.

Roofing rallied on 79 minutes when Dennis Knight was upended in the box, and he got up to convert the resulting spot-kick, but the Two Blues held on for only their third win.

North Shields won 2-0 at Newton Aycliffe to go seventh. Andrew Grant-Soulsby’s headed own goal gave the Robins a 35th-minute lead, and Dean Holmes added a cheeky, late second.

Whitley Bay beat Penrith 2-0 with two early goals to make it three wins in a row. Thibault Charmey scored after just two minutes and Andrew Robertson doubled the lead six minutes later.

In the only TWR Bifolds Wearside League game, Annfield Plain edged a 2-1 win at Hebburn Town Reserves.

Lewis Donnelly fired Plain ahead on seven minutes, but Daniel Maddison equalised. Jonny Bolam capitalised on a goalkeeping error to hit the winner.
