Forgotten man Sylvain Marveaux is closing in on his Newcastle United comeback – 18 months after he last turned out for the club.
Marveaux – who spent last season on loan at Guingamp – missed the club’s pre-season campaign with a groin injury.

But the 29-year-old is steadily working his way back to full fitness.
And assistant coach Paul Simpson hopes Marveaux – who is in the final year of his St James’s Park contract – can return to training later this month.
“Without wishing to tempt fate, we’re in a decent place at the moment,” said Simpson.
“Sylvain Marveaux has come back from France where he’s been doing the early stages of his rehab.
“We’re hoping that he’ll be back out on the training field in the next week or two.
“He’s doing work with the medical department as the first stage of his rehab, and we’ll then step that up with the other staff and back into the football side of it.”
Marveaux’s last competitive appearance for Newcastle came in a 3-0 home defeat to Everton in March last year.
