NEWCASTLE United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Burnley.

Papiss Cisse grabbed an equaliser early in the second half to save the visitors’ blushes at Turf Moor.

Burnley had taken the lead in the first half through George Boyd as Newcastle struggled to get into the game.

The home attacker took advantage of a header down by Danny Ings to slam home left-footed past Magpies goalkeeper Rob Elliot to open the scoring in the 34th minute.

Boss Alan Pardew responded to a lacklustre half by withdrawing Mike Williamson and Ayoze Perez at half-time and replacing them with Steven Taylor and Remy Cabella.

And it took Cisse just three minutes to level, converting Daryl Janmaat’s right-wing cross after Yoan Gouffan missed an attempted flick.

Both sides had efforts late on to win the game, but had to settle for a draw.
