Steve McClaren’s team selection for Newcastle United’s final USA tour game will be influenced by the artificial pitch at Providence Park.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini – who has a sore Achilles – won’t play against Portland Timbers (3.30am kick-off BST).

And McClaren has a decision to make on defender Steven Taylor, who made his comeback from long-term injury against Sacramento Republic at the weekend.

However, United’s head coach won’t take any risks with anyone not comfortable on the surface.

Newcastle’s players had a brief training session at 21,000-seat Providence Park last night to get used to the pitch.

Those players who didn’t feature at Bonney Field, including Karl Darlow, Mehid Abeid, Yoan Gouffran and Gael Bigirimana, are contenders to start against Portland.
