Simpson back for Mags

Danny Simpson is set to make his Newcastle comeback against Bordeaux tomorrow night, writes Miles Starforth.

The defender has been out for a month with a hamstring problem.

However, Simpson returned to training last week, and will be in manager Alan Pardew’s squad for the Europa League group game.

“Danny’s available, and I think we’ve missed him, to be honest,” said Pardew.

However, Simpson’s defensive colleagues Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini – who both have hamstring problems – won’t be available, while goalkeeper Tim Krul (elbow) is still out.

Pardew added: “I think, defensively, we’re at our max – I’ve not got the options I would like.”
