RYAN Taylor is closer than ever to a playing return for Newcastle United – but tomorrow’s game against Leicester City will come too soon for him.
Taylor is back in full training after two years on the sidelines.
The 30-year-old utility player has had a series of operation after twice rupturing his cruciate ligament.
Taylor has played two behind-closed-doors fixtures at the club’s training ground.
And United manager Alan Pardew feels he needs to play a competitive reserve game before he is pitched back into the Premier League.
Taylor will play in Monday afternoon’s Under-21 Premier League fixture against Brighton at Whitley Park (1pm kick-off).
“Ryan Taylor will be fit, but I don’t think he’s ready to be involved in this game yet,” said Pardew.
“He will play on Monday in the Under-21s game and get a full game in that.
“He hasn’t really played a full competitive game yet.”
