Newcastle boss Alan Pardew faces a defensive headache at West Ham tomorrow – despite the return of captain Fabricio Coloccini, writes Miles Starforth.
Pardew will be without both the full-backs who started against Liverpool last weekend.
Danny Simpson will come in at right-back for the suspended Mathieu Debuchy, who was sent off the in 6-0 defeat.
However, Pardew has a dilemma at left-back, with Massadio Haidara (hamstring) and first-choice Davide Santon out. Jonas Gutierrez has been used this season.
Defender Coloccini’s return after a two-month absence is one positive for Pardew.
The 31-year-old’s leadership on the field has been badly missed in recent weeks.
“Colo’s the captain of this club, and we need leaders and people who are experienced,” said Pardew.
“This isn’t a fight. It isn’t a boxing match. It’s a game of football, and we need calm heads.”
Pardew had hoped to also have Sylvain Marveaux available, but the midfielder is still sidelined with a groin problem.
